Rakesh Traders

Our business, Rakesh Traders, is located in the village of Khadimpur. We are in the Uttar Virajpur district and our mail goes through the Mariual post office. Being in a village means we know pretty much everyone who comes into the shop. We trade in various goods that people around here need for their daily lives. It’s not like the big shops in the city. We have a more personal way of doing things. Sometimes we get stuff in from the larger towns and sometimes we deal with local produce. The building is an old one that has been in my family for a long time. It can get a bit muddy out front when it rains because the road isn't paved very well. We don't have regular hours like a corporate office; we usually open when the sun comes up and stay open as long as there are people around. We spend a lot of time talking about the weather and the crops with our customers. It’s a quiet life for the most part, except on market days when everyone is out. We don’t use any computers here, just a big ledger to keep track of what we buy and sell. It’s a lot of manual work, moving sacks and boxes around. We are just a small part of Khadimpur, trying to make sure the folks here have what they need without having to travel too far away.
