Raja Bricks

Raja Bricks is tucked away in the village of Durgapur, over in the Uttar Dinajpur district. It is a quiet area compared to the big cities, and we like it that way for the most part. The business has been a staple of the local community for some time now. We rely a lot on the local soil and the strength of the people who work with us. Most of the guys here are from the surrounding villages, so we all know each other’s families. When the harvest season comes around, it can be hard to find enough help because everyone is out in the fields, but we make do. The bricks we make are solid and they get the job done for the houses and walls being built nearby. We don't have any high-tech machines, just the old-fashioned ways that have worked for a long time. The rainy season is always our biggest challenge because the whole yard turns to mud and we can’t fire the kilns properly. We just have to wait it out and start again when the sun comes back. I usually handle the paperwork in a small room that gets pretty hot in the afternoons. It’s not a fancy life, but there is a certain pride in seeing the stacks of bricks ready to go. We just take things one day at a time and hope for good weather.
