Make The Basket Foundation

Make The Basket Foundation is based in Kharghar, over at Sai-Shradha, which is a CHS on Plot 65 in Sector 11. Kharghar is a bit more open and windy than the rest of Navi Mumbai, which is nice during the humid summer. We are in Flat A-202. It’s a residential building, so we try to keep things quiet so we don’t bother the neighbors who live next door. We do a lot of work involving collecting items and getting them to people who actually need them. Hence the name, though we do other things too like helping with school fees. Our living room area is basically our main workspace, filled with boxes and bags most of the time. It gets a bit messy, but it’s a good kind of mess that shows we are busy. We spend a lot of our time on the phone coordinating pickups or talking to volunteers. There’s a small balcony where we sometimes take breaks to get some fresh air. We don’t have a fancy corporate setup; it’s more like a family-run operation. Even the security guard at the gate knows us and helps point people to our door. We’ve been here for a while now, and we’ve gotten to know the rhythm of the neighborhood. We don’t do much advertising; most people find out about us through word of mouth. It’s a simple way to work, and it suits us just fine for what we’re trying to do.
