Our retreat is tucked away at Bhavani Naka in Village Varsoli, which is a quiet corner of Alibaug. It isn't like those massive hotels you see in the city. It’s more of a place where things are a bit slower. We spend a lot of our time making sure the rooms are tidy and the garden isn't overgrown. The salt air from the nearby beach tends to wear things down, so there is always a door to paint or a leak to fix. We don't have a big team of uniformed staff. Usually, it’s just a few of us doing the cooking, the cleaning, and the check-ins all at once. When guests arrive, we just show them where everything is and let them be. People come here to get away from the noise, and we try to keep it that way. In the evenings, you can hear the birds and not much else. We don't have a fancy restaurant with a long menu; we just make simple, local food that we like to eat ourselves. Some days are hectic when a large group comes in, and other days we just sit on the porch and wait for the next person to call. It’s a basic life here in the village. We like the quiet, and we hope the people who stay with us enjoy it too, even if it’s not perfect.
