Janta I College is situated in Katrauly, which is over in the Phulpur area of Allahabad. It’s a bit of a drive out to Mubarakpur to get to us. The college has been part of this community for years. It’s a simple place with a lot of open space around the main building. We don’t have a big corporate office or anything like that. It’s just a group of us who manage the daily classes and the paperwork. The students come from the surrounding villages, mostly on their bikes. In the mornings, the place is full of life, but by the afternoon, it gets very quiet. We have high ceilings in the classrooms to help with the heat. We don't use a lot of fancy technology, just the traditional blackboards and chalk. It’s worked for us for a long time. Sometimes the rain makes the roads to Katrauly a bit difficult, but the students usually make it in anyway. We don’t have a PR team writing our stuff. We just focus on getting the syllabus finished before the exams. The playground is just a patch of dirt where the boys play cricket during the break. We try to keep the building in good shape, but it’s an old place and needs constant work like any other building in the village. It’s a very grounded, local college where everyone is just trying to get ahead. We do what we can with what we have here to keep things going year after year.
