We are out in Kogodu Village at number 821. It’s a small place and everyone pretty much knows everyone else’s business. We deal with corn, mostly. Depending on the time of year, we are either very busy or just waiting for the crop to dry out. The barn where we keep the corn is old and the roof leaks a little when it rains hard, so we have to use tarps. I spend a lot of time looking at the sky and worrying about the weather. That’s just part of being a dealer in a village like this. My father started this years ago and I just took over. We don't have a computer or anything like that, just a big notebook where I write down the weights and the prices. The village is quiet most of the time except when the tractors go past. Sometimes the corn smells real sweet and other times it's just dusty. We load the sacks onto trucks to go to the bigger markets. It’s a lot of physical work, hauling those heavy bags around. I’m usually pretty tired by dinner time. We don't try to be fancy. We just buy the corn and sell it on. It’s a simple way to make a living and it keeps us close to the land here in Kogodu. It’s just how things are done.
