Rajan Fertilizer

Rajan Fertilizer is situated in Velappaya. We are quite close to the Medical College, so there are always people and vehicles moving around outside. The shop is usually full of heavy bags of fertilizer stacked up against the walls. It has a specific smell inside, a bit sharp, which is just what you expect when you deal with these things. We spend most of the day talking to farmers who come in from the nearby areas. They usually have a lot to say about the weather or how their crops are doing this season. The floor is concrete and often has a bit of dirt on it from all the boots coming in and out. We have a small desk where we keep our papers, but it’s mostly covered in dust. It gets busy during the planting season, and then it’s much quieter when the rain starts. We don't have any air conditioning, just a ceiling fan that wobbles a bit. If you are coming from the main road, you just look for the medical college and we are right there in Velappaya. It’s not a very big place, but it holds everything we need to do the business. We keep the door open most of the day. Sometimes a stray dog will sit under the shade of our porch to get out of the sun. It's just a regular local shop where we work from morning until the sun goes down.
