About Purulia Polytechnic Metallurgical Engineering – Metals & Minerals in Purulia
We are based at the Purulia Polytechnic, specifically focusing on the metallurgical engineering side of things. Our daily life happens within the campus walls, surrounded by labs and heavy testing equipment. It’s a place where we study metals and their properties. Most of our time is spent in the workshop areas rather than sitting in a comfortable office. It’s a very practical environment. There’s often the smell of hot metal or chemicals in the air. The buildings here at the polytechnic are older and have a lot of character, though they can be a bit cold in the winter. We don't have any polished corporate messaging. We are just part of the academic community here in Purulia. Students are always coming in with questions or working on their lab reports. It’s a busy atmosphere but in a studious way. We spend a lot of time calibrating machines and checking samples under the microscope. It’s not the kind of work where you stay clean all day. You usually go home with a bit of grit on your clothes. We’ve been part of this institution for quite some time now. It’s a steady routine of teaching and experimenting. We don't try to make it sound more exciting than it is. It’s just hard, detailed work involving the science of materials. Everyone on the campus knows where the metallurgy department is because of the noise from our labs and the sparks when we are testing new alloys. It can get pretty sweaty when we have the furnaces going full blast on hot afternoons.
