Garam Masala is our little business located at Plot No- P72 in the Adra Railway Market. We are in the Purulia district, right near the Ram Mandir. Being near the railway market means there is always a lot of coming and going. The trains passing by make the whole place shake a little, but we don't even notice it anymore. We deal with spices, mostly mixing and grinding the stuff that goes into everyday cooking. Our shop is small and the air is always thick with the smell of pepper, cumin, and cloves. It makes you sneeze if you aren't used to it. We don't have any fancy packaging machines; we mostly do things by hand or with small grinders. It’s a lot of manual labor, pouring seeds into containers and weighing them out on an old scale. The shelves are a bit disorganized, but we know exactly where everything is. We don’t use any big words to describe what we do. We just sell spices to the people who live around the railway colony and the nearby villages. Sometimes we sit on stools outside the shop and talk to the neighbors when it’s slow. It’s a simple life in a busy market. We don't have a manager or a marketing plan. We just open up every morning, grind the spices, and see who comes by. It’s what we do and it keeps us busy enough throughout the day.
