The Best Rice Mill

The Best Rice Mill is what we call it, though we are just a regular mill in Pratapdighi. It’s a small place in Patashpur. You can find us easily if you are coming through the village. We have the big machines for cleaning and husking the rice. It gets pretty loud during the day, so we have to shout sometimes to hear each other. We don't have any fancy brochures or a website. We just open the gates in the morning and see who comes by. Most of the folks are local farmers we’ve known for years. We handle the grain, stack the bags, and keep the records in our books. It’s honest work. The dust gets everywhere, even in your hair, but you get used to it after a week. We don’t try to act like we’re some big industry leaders. We’re just part of the village. Sometimes the power goes out and we have to wait around, but that's just life here. We chat about the weather and the crops. It’s a simple way to spend the day. We’ve been here in this spot for a long time. The building has seen better days, but it keeps the rain off the rice, and that’s what matters. We just do our bit and go home at the end of the day. It is a noisy job, but seeing the finished bags makes it feel worth it. We hope to stay here for a while.
