Milan Mancha Rural Development Foundation

Our office is at Tarasankar Maiti’s house in Dumurdari. We are a small group called the Milan Mancha Rural Development Foundation. Dumurdari is a very rural place, so we are surrounded by fields and small houses. We don’t have any fancy office equipment or a big sign out front. It’s just a place where we gather to talk about the local roads, the schools, and the general development of our area. Most of the people involved here are farmers or small business owners from the village. We understand the problems here because we face them every day ourselves. We don’t have a corporate office in the city. We think it’s better to be right here where the work is happening. Sometimes we have to walk a long way to reach the more remote parts of the area, but we don’t mind the exercise. Our records are kept in simple folders, and we do a lot of our thinking while walking through the village. We aren’t interested in looking like a big, professional organization. We just want to be honest and work hard. People in Dumurdari know they can come to Tarasankar’s place if they have something to discuss. It’s a very open and friendly way to run things. We are just a group of neighbors trying to improve our home one day at a time.
