Maa Khukumani Bhandar

Maa Khukumani Bhandar is right in the middle of Itaberia Bazar, which is the main hub for our village here in the Bhupatinagar area. If you come on a market day, the whole place is buzzing with people from all over the surrounding villages. Our bhandar is a traditional shop where we stock mostly essential items like mustard oil, pulses, salt, and various spices that people need for their daily cooking. The building is old, and the walls have been painted a few times, but you can still see the original character of the place. We have a heavy wooden counter that has seen many years of service. Most of our customers are farmers or people living nearby who we have known for a long time. They come in not just to buy things but to exchange some news about the weather or the crops. When the rains are heavy, the bazar area gets quite muddy, and we have to put down some gunny bags on the floor to keep the shop clean. We don't have any fancy displays or glass cases; things are mostly kept in large tins or sacks that we scoop from. It is a very hands-on way of doing things. Bhupatinagar is a quiet place most of the time, and our shop is just one small part of the daily life here. We start early and close up once the bazar starts to empty out in the evening.
