About Maa Basanti Bhandar – Food & Beverages in Purba Medinipur
Our shop, Maa Basanti Bhandar, is out in Singda village. We’re near the Amarshi post office in Patashpur. It’s deep in Purba Midnapur. We sell all the basic stuff that folks in the village need. It’s a general store, really. We’ve got rice, oil, soap, and some snacks for the kids. The shop is small and can get pretty hot in the summer, but we stay open all day anyway. We know everyone in the village by name. It’s the kind of place where people stop to talk for ten minutes while they’re buying a kilo of salt. We don't have any fancy displays or neon lights. It’s just wooden shelves and a counter that’s seen better days. We get our supplies from the bigger towns nearby and try to keep the prices fair. If someone is short on cash, we usually work something out because we’ve known their family for generations. Running a bhandar in a place like Patashpur isn't about getting rich. It’s about being there for the community and making sure people don't have to travel too far for their basics. We spend a lot of time cleaning the dust off the jars and reordering stock. It’s a lot of quiet, repetitive work, but it’s what we do. We aren't part of any big corporation. It’s just our family running the place and keeping things moving as best as we can. Every day is pretty much the same.
