You will find us at Ananya Bhawan, which is near the Kalla Central Hospital. It is a quiet spot in Gopal Nagar. Skomerce Underprivileged Artisian Foundation is really about the people who make things with their hands. We saw so many artisans in the Bardhaman area struggling to get by, so we set this up. It is not some big corporate thing. We just have this space where we try to organize stuff for them. Sometimes the electricity goes out, and we just sit and talk until it comes back. It is very local. Most of us grew up around here, so we know the families and the crafts they do. We do not have a glossy brochure. We just have some tables and some samples of work laying around. The artisans come in from different parts of Kalla and we try to figure out how to help them sell their bits and pieces. It is tough work because the market is always changing. We spend a lot of time on the phone or just meeting people face to face. It is a bit messy sometimes, with papers everywhere, but that is just how it goes when you are busy. We are right there at the Kalla address if anyone needs to find us. It is a simple setup, nothing special to look at, but it works for us and the people we support. It is just local people helping each other.
