Our shop is located on Amravati Road in the Wadi area. It’s a busy stretch of road, so there’s always the sound of horns and trucks passing by outside. Inside, it’s a bit different. We have rows and rows of sarees tucked into wooden cupboards and some spread out on the display tables. We’ve been here for quite some time, so the place has a bit of an old feel to it. The floor tiles are a little chipped in the corners and the ceiling fan makes a clicking noise, but it works. We spend our days unfolding fabric for people and then trying to fold it all back up neatly, which is harder than it looks. It takes a lot of patience to get the pleats right every single time. We don’t use any big fancy computers to track everything; we still do a lot of things the old-fashioned way with a pen and a notebook. Local people from Wadi know where we are, and they usually just stop by when they’re passing through. We don’t put on any airs or pretend to be some big high-end boutique. It’s just a local saree shop on a busy road. We do our work, talk to the neighbors, and close up when the sun goes down. It’s a simple life and we’ve grown quite fond of the daily routine here on Amravati Road. We keep things grounded and just focus on the cloth.
