Utturkar'S Wood Culture is located right in the heart of the old city, at 1906 Sadashiv Peth. We are near Natu Baug, which is a very familiar area for anyone who knows Pune well. The streets around here are narrow and always full of people, but that’s the charm of the Peth areas. We’ve been working with wood in this spot for a long time. Our shop isn't a modern mall outlet. It’s a traditional space where you can smell the sawdust and the varnish. We spend our days surrounded by different types of timber and half-finished projects. Most of us grew up learning the trade from our elders. We don't have a polished corporate image. We just have our tools and our experience. Wood is a tricky material, it moves and changes, and you have to respect that. We don't use much marketing speak because the work usually speaks for itself. People walk in off the street to ask questions or see what we are making. We don't have a formal reception. You just find one of us and start talking. Sometimes it gets a bit chaotic with all the wood stacked up, but we know exactly what we have. It’s a quiet life of craftsmanship. We just focus on making things that last and keeping the old traditions going in this changing city. It’s simply what we do and who we are, and we like it that way.
