Number 24 in the Parvati area is where Shruti handles most of the daily tasks. It’s a small, personal office that feels more like a study than a corporate workspace. The walls have a few sketches taped up, and there’s always a pile of books on the corner of the desk. Parvati is a nice part of town, and the walk to the office in the morning is usually a good way to start things off. Inside, things are kept fairly simple. There’s a computer, a lamp that leans a bit to one side, and a very comfortable chair that has been there since the beginning. Most of the work involves a lot of quiet thinking and drafting. There isn’t much foot traffic here, so it stays pretty peaceful for the most part. Occasionally, a neighbor will stop by for a chat, or a delivery person will bring a package, but otherwise, it’s just a steady flow of work. The window lets in a good amount of light, which is helpful for seeing the finer details on a drawing. Shruti doesn’t use any fancy software if a pencil and paper will do the job just as well. It’s a slow and steady way of doing things, focusing on one project at a time until it’s finished. By the end of the week, the desk is usually covered in notes and scraps of paper, but there’s a sense of satisfaction in seeing everything come together.
