We are out in Chakan, specifically at 280 Nanekar Wadi in the Tal-Khed area of Pune district. Being in Chakan means we are surrounded by some of the biggest factories in the country, but our spot in Nanekar Wadi feels a bit more local. The commute from the city can be a long one depending on the road works, so we usually try to get here early before the trucks take over the highway. The workshop is mostly filled with cutting machines and stacks of gasket materials. There’s a particular smell to the rubber and composite sheets we use, something you get used to after a few days. We have a small staff and we try to keep things moving as steadily as we can. The office is just a few desks shoved into the front room where the sunlight comes through the window in the afternoon. Sometimes we have to deal with power fluctuations, so we’ve got a routine for checking the equipment when things go dark for a second. It’s a practical environment, no carpets or fancy lights, just hard floors and plenty of storage racks. We usually eat our lunch in the small shed out back or under the shade of the trees nearby if it’s not too dusty. It’s a quiet life out here in Tal-Khed compared to the city, and we just focus on the components we have to finish.
