Unirose Fabrics is situated right near the Tara Hotel in Narayan Peth. If you know the area, you know it’s always busy with people and shops. We’re at numbers 5-12, which gives us enough room to keep our fabric stock. Narayan Peth is famous for its textile history, so it felt right for us to be here. The streets are narrow and sometimes it’s a struggle to get deliveries in or out, but we manage. We aren't a big showroom with lights and glass. It’s more of a traditional workspace where we stack up the rolls of cloth. Every day is different. Some days we are sorting through new arrivals, other days we’re just sitting around waiting for the phone to ring. We drink a lot of chai from the stall down the road. It’s a bit noisy with all the scooters passing by outside, but we’re used to it. The walls are covered in shelves full of various types of fabrics. We don't use fancy computers for everything; a lot of our notes are still on paper. It works for us. We’ve been here for years and know most of the other shop owners nearby. It’s a tight community. We don’t try to be anything we aren’t. We just sell fabrics and try to stay busy. It’s a humble place, but it’s ours. We spend a lot of time just checking the texture of different materials.
