We run U & Kay Power Systems Pvt. Ltd. out of the Konark Industrial Estates. We have units 22, 23, and 24. It sounds like a lot of space, but once you put in the heavy power equipment and all the spare parts, it gets small pretty fast. Viman Nagar is where we are based, and it’s a decent area for an industrial estate. The units are basic concrete structures with big rolling metal doors. We spend our days working on different power systems. There is always a smell of burnt solder or oil in the air. The floor in unit 23 is a bit uneven, so we have to be careful when moving the heavy machines on wheels. We don't have a fancy office area; we just use a corner of unit 22 for the computer and the phone. It gets really loud when the neighbors are running their machinery, so we usually have to step outside to take a call. The sun beats down on the metal roofs in the summer and it gets quite stuffy inside. We have a couple of pedestal fans that just move the hot air around. Most of our day is spent fixing things or checking that the systems are running right before they go out. It's hard work and our hands are usually dirty by noon. We aren't big on appearances here; we just care about the machines working the way they should.
