Tawakkal Tools & Hardware

The shop is located at 967 Raviwar Peth on Gandhi Road. We are inside Gulamali Chambers, right across from where Darbar Band is situated. It’s a hectic part of town, always full of traffic and people moving fast. At Tawakkal Tools & Hardware, things are usually a bit messy. We have shelves piled high with all sorts of metal parts and heavy tools. Sometimes it takes a minute to find exactly what someone is looking for because the boxes get moved around. There’s a layer of fine dust over most of the higher shelves. We don't mind it much. My brother and I manage the counter, and we see all kinds of people coming in. Some are contractors who know exactly what they need, while others are just neighbors trying to fix a leaky tap or a broken door handle. The air smells a bit like oil and cold iron. During the monsoon, the rain splashes right onto the doorstep, so we have to keep moving the stock back. We’ve had the same old fan spinning on the ceiling for years, and it makes a clicking sound that you stop hearing after ten minutes. It’s a lived-in space. We don’t try to make it look like a showroom because that isn’t what we are about. We just stay busy with the hardware and keep things moving as best as we can every day.
