Our shop is a bit further out, located in Village Mehar Baghti near Nandprayag in the Chamoli district. Being up here in Uttarakhand is quite different from the city locations. The air is thinner and the roads can be a real challenge for any vehicle, so we see a lot of wear and tear on the trucks and cars that come to us. We’re tucked away in a quiet spot, but the work is steady. Most of the drivers who stop by are locals or people passing through the mountains. We have to be resourceful because getting parts up here sometimes takes longer than it would in a big city. The workspace is simple and fits the surroundings. We deal with a lot of suspension issues and brake problems because of the steep hills around Chamoli. It’s a small team, and we often have to help each other out with the bigger jobs. In the winter, it gets quite cold, so we move a bit slower in the mornings until things warm up. We don't have fancy diagnostic computers for everything, so we rely a lot on our ears and what we’ve learned over the years. It’s a humble place, just a Tata Motors sign and some dedicated hands. We’re just here to keep the local transport moving through the hills as best as we can even when the snow makes everything twice as difficult as usual for us.
