Our office for the Sustainable Environment And Ruraldevelopment Foundation is in Kharadi, specifically at the Shree Swami Samarth Complex. We’re in Flat 104 on the first floor of the building. The complex sits on Survey Number 21, Hissa Number 3A, if you are looking at the property records. Kharadi is a busy part of Pune, but our little corner is usually quite calm. We spend a lot of time thinking about the rural areas outside the city, even though we’re based right here in the middle of all the noise. The complex has a few other businesses in it, so there is always a bit of movement in the hallways. We don’t have a big staff or anything like that, just a few of us who have an interest in the trees and how things are changing in the countryside. Sometimes the electricity goes out for a bit, which is just part of living here, but we manage to keep things going. We have a lot of maps and old reports scattered around our desks. People from the nearby villages often come by to chat or ask for advice on land issues. It’s a plain room with a few windows that look out onto the street. We don’t go for anything flashy because that’s not what we’re about. It’s mostly just hard work and trying to understand the problems people are facing. We like being in Kharadi because it’s easy for people to find us.
