Sun Shoppe

Deccan Gymkhana is one of those areas where there is always a crowd of people moving about. Our shop, Sun Shoppe, is located at number 4 on Ramchowk. It is a very small storefront, just enough room for the counter and a couple of narrow aisles for the stock. If more than three customers come in at once, it feels very crowded and we have to shuffle around. We keep the inventory stacked high on the shelves to make use of the ceiling height. Most of the time, one of us is standing near the door just to get some fresh air because the shop gets warm in the afternoons. The street outside is a constant stream of bikes and buses. Number 4 has been around for a long time, and the wooden door frame is worn smooth from all the hands that have pushed it open. We have a small stool behind the counter, but it is not very comfortable, so we mostly stand. There is a tiny mirror on the wall that is slightly cracked, and a clock that is always five minutes fast. We decided not to fix the clock because it helps us get things done a bit quicker before closing. People in the neighborhood stop by just to say hello even if they do not need to buy anything that day. It is a simple life, running a shop on a busy corner like Ramchowk.
