Living and working as a store keeper here in Uttrakhand is quite different from being in a big city. The air is better but the work is still the same daily grind of looking after supplies. I spend most of my mornings opening up the shutters and seeing what the trucks brought in overnight. Some days the weather makes it hard for deliveries to reach us but we manage. I have to keep a close eye on the stock levels because you can't just run out and get things easily around here. My workspace is simple and I don't have any assistants to help with the heavy lifting or the paperwork. I just write everything down in my ledger and hope I didn't miss anything. The shelves are mostly full and I try to keep the floor clear so nobody trips. It's a quiet life for the most part except when the local guys come around to pick up their orders. We talk for a bit about the weather or the roads and then they head out. I spend the rest of the afternoon re-counting the items to make sure my numbers match the physical count. It is repetitive work but it needs to get done by someone who knows the layout of the place. I have been in Uttrakhand for a long time and I don't think I would want to do this anywhere else in the country.
