Our place is out in Khandala, specifically in the Bavada area. We work out of Manu Niwas on Lonand Road. It’s a very different setting from the big city offices. It’s more of a traditional house setup that we’ve converted for our gem business. Being on Lonand Road means we see a lot of local traffic, mostly people from the surrounding villages and the occasional truck passing through. The pace of life here in Khandala is much more relaxed. We don’t have the noise of the Mumbai suburbs, just the sound of the wind and the local birds. Manu Niwas is a plain building, nothing that stands out too much, but it’s home for SKG Gems. We have our sorting tables and our record books all laid out inside. Most of the people who work here are locals who have been with us for a while. We don’t have a fancy website or a big marketing budget; we just rely on the work we do day in and day out. Sometimes the electricity goes out for a bit, and we just take a break until it comes back on. It’s a simple existence, but we enjoy the quiet and the fact that we can focus on the gems without all the distractions of a big city. It’s just us, the road, and the work we do. We try to keep things honest and grounded in this little corner of the world without making things too complicated.
