Our work at Sanman Cotton Industries happens in the Laxminagar area of Village Chandrapur. It’s a bit of a trek to get out here if you aren’t used to the local roads. Chetan Manoharrao Chatap is the main name on the paperwork, and he’s usually around the site. The village life dictates the pace here, which is mostly busy during the harvest season. We deal with raw cotton, and it gets pretty dusty in the workspace. You can smell the earth and the cotton in the air as soon as you pull up to the gate. Our setup is pretty basic, just the necessary machinery and a small office where we keep the ledgers. We don't have a fancy website or a marketing department. Most of our neighbors are also in the trade or farming, so everyone knows everyone else’s business. We spend our afternoons drinking chai and talking about the weather, mostly hoping for rain at the right time. When the trucks come in to load up, the whole place gets loud and crowded for a few hours. Then it goes back to being quiet again. We’ve been doing this for a while and don't see ourselves changing much. It’s honest work, and it keeps us busy. We just try to get the cotton sorted and sent off without too much trouble from the equipment or the weather. Sometimes the phone line acts up, but we manage.
