Most people think we’re only in the big city, but we actually have this place out in Nandlapur. It’s a village area in Karad Taluka, Satara. Getting here from Pune takes a few hours, but it’s a nice change of pace. The air is definitely cleaner, though the dust from the roads can be a bit much in the summer heat. Our office here is pretty basic, just a spot to coordinate the local labor and keep track of the materials coming in. We spend a lot of time talking to the local guys about the site conditions. It’s not like the corporate offices where everything is computerized and shiny. Here, we still use a lot of paper notebooks and talk face-to-face over a glass of water. The village life is slower, which helps when you need to focus on the details of a project without a hundred distractions. Sometimes we have to deal with power cuts, so we just sit outside under the shade of a tree for a bit until the lights come back on. It’s a quiet life in Nandlapur, but there’s a lot of building work happening in these rural parts now. We’re right there in the middle of it, making sure things move along as they should. It’s a long way from the main Pune office, but the work is exactly the same at the end of the day. The local tea here is much stronger than what we get in the city.
