Ratnagiri Power Plant

This facility is way out in Chikhali, which is part of the Guhagar area in the Ratnagiri district. It’s a coastal part of Maharashtra, so the air is a bit salty and the greenery is everywhere. Working at a power plant like this means there is always a low hum in the background. It is a big site, not like a small shop in the city. We have people coming in for shifts at all hours because the machinery doesn't really stop. Most of us live nearby or in the surrounding villages. The roads out here can be a bit winding, especially during the monsoon when everything gets very wet. We spend a lot of time on maintenance and just making sure the systems are running the way they should. It is a lot of walking around the grounds checking gauges and pipes. We don’t have a fancy front office for visitors since most of the work is technical and happens in the back. The canteen is where most of us catch up during breaks. It's a very practical environment. There isn't much noise other than the machines and the wind. Sometimes you can see the sea if you walk to the edge of the property. We just focus on the daily tasks and keeping the lights on. It’s a steady kind of job, and we take the routine seriously even if the pace feels quiet compared to Mumbai. It is a long day but the work is important.
