R S Kamthe & Brothers

If you ever walk through Market Yard near China Bazaar, you’ll find us at 3rd Cross, number 208. R S Kamthe & Brothers is basically a family affair. It gets incredibly crowded here, especially in the early mornings when all the heavy crates are being moved around. The 3rd Cross is a tight squeeze for the delivery vans. We spend most of our day talking to people and checking on our stock levels. It is very loud and there is always someone shouting or a horn honking nearby. That’s just life in Market Yard. We’ve been at this specific spot for quite a while now. Our shop isn't anything special to look at, just a place where work gets done every day. My brothers and I take turns managing things and keeping the books. Sometimes we argue about where to put the new boxes or who forgot to lock the gate, but we always figure it out. It's a lot of manual work, like lifting and carrying heavy items. We don't use fancy computers for every little thing; a lot of it is still written down in big blue ledgers with a pen. When it rains, the bazaar gets quite muddy, and we have to move all our products inside quickly. It's a bit chaotic but we actually like the energy of the China Bazaar area. You meet all kinds of people here from all over the place. At R S Kamthe & Brothers, we just keep the doors open and see who comes in. It’s a steady, honest life.
