At Poonam Battery on Dhanakawadi Eksar Road, most days start with moving the heavy stock around. Batteries are not light, so my back usually feels it by noon. We are right on Eksar Road, which means there is a lot of dust coming in from the passing cars and bikes. I spend a good amount of time wiping down the plastic casings so they don't look old. Dhanakawadi is a busy area, especially in the mornings when everyone is trying to get their vehicles started for work. If a battery is dead, they bring it over here. My hands stay pretty dirty most of the day from handling the lead and the terminals. I have a small stool in the corner where I sit and have my tea while the chargers are humming. It’s a steady sound that you get used to after a few years. The shop isn't very large, but we pack in as many units as we can along the walls. People walking along Eksar Road often poke their heads in to ask for a quick charge or a price. I don’t use any big computers or anything, just a ledger to keep track of things. It works for us. Poonam Battery has been here for a while now, and the neighbors are all friendly. Sometimes the rain splashes under the door if it’s heavy, but we just mop it up and keep going with the day.
