Our place is over in Khadki, at 25/26. It’s an old building, and you can tell by the way the doors creak when you push them open in the morning. Inside, we have shelves that go all the way up to the ceiling, filled with all sorts of things that have gathered a bit of dust on the top layers. We don't use computers much, so most of the records are in these thick ledgers with blue covers. My father used to sit at the same desk where I sit now, and the wood is worn smooth right where his elbows used to rest. A lot of new buildings have gone up around Khadki, but our place stays the same as it was thirty years ago. We spend a lot of the day just waiting for deliveries or talking to the neighbors who stop in to ask about something. The floor is made of large stone slabs that stay cool even when it’s boiling outside. Sometimes the phone rings and it’s someone looking for a part or a specific item we haven't seen in years. We have to go digging through the back crates to find anything. It’s a bit of a mess back there, truth be told. We keep the lights low to save on the bill, so it’s a bit dark in the corners. It’s just a quiet business, keeping track of the stock and making sure the bills get paid on time.
