Our workshop, Modern Woodwork, is over in Warje, inside the R-Square building. We are at number 109, and a good way to find us is to look for Mai Mangeshkar Hospital nearby. There’s always a bit of sawdust in the air here, no matter how much we sweep up. It’s just the nature of working with wood all day long. We share some space or are near Aparna Publications, which makes for an interesting mix of neighbors in the building. Our day usually starts with the sound of saws and sanders getting warmed up. It can get pretty noisy, so we’re used to talking a bit louder over the machines just to be heard. We have different kinds of wood stacked up against the walls, waiting for the next project to start. It’s a hands-on kind of place, and we take pride in doing things the old way. We don't have a big fancy showroom; you mostly see the work while it’s still being put together on the benches. People from the neighborhood often drop by to ask about small repairs or bigger custom pieces for their apartments. We take a break when the heat gets too much and sit near the entrance where there's a bit of a breeze from the hallway. Every piece we make has its own little quirks because that’s just how wood is. We aren't trying to be a massive factory or a big brand. We just like making things that people can actually use and keep in their homes for years. It’s a steady pace of work.
