Manoj Timbers & Ply is tucked away in Kothrud, right off the New Link Road. If you find the Fun Cinemas lane, you’re basically there. We have stacks of plywood and raw timber taking up most of the space. The smell of sawdust is everywhere. I’ve been working with wood for most of my life. We get a lot of carpenters coming in to pick out sheets for cabinets or furniture. I try to keep a good variety of thickness and grades. The shop is a bit cramped because wood takes up so much room. We have to be careful when moving the long boards so we don't hit the ceiling lights. It’s a family-run thing. My brother handles the deliveries with our old truck. Sometimes the traffic on New Link Road makes it hard to get back in time for lunch. We aren't trying to be the biggest supplier in 38020, just a reliable one for the guys doing the work. People stop by to chat while they're looking at the grain patterns. We don't have a showroom with fancy lights. It’s just a warehouse with a lot of wood and a small desk for the receipts. We keep the saws sharp in the back for when someone needs a custom cut. It’s a lot of manual work but wood is good to work with.
