If you go down to Gulmohar Park in Ghorpadi, you will find us at House No-2. M & B Footwear Pvt Ltd. has been operating out of Pune for a good bit now. We deal with shoes, mostly. It is a messy business with the glue and the leather scraps everywhere, but someone has to do it. The workshop is always humming with the sound of the stitching machines. Pune is a busy city, and being in Ghorpadi means we are close to the railway, which helps with moving things around. We aren't trying to be the biggest brand in the world. We just want to make sure the soles don't fall off the shoes we put together. I spent all of last Tuesday fixing the ventilation because it gets stuffy in the back room. My brother handles some of the local deliveries in his old van. We don't use big words or have fancy meetings. We just sit around the table, look at the samples, and decide what we can finish by Friday. Sometimes we argue about the designs, but it usually works out in the end. The house we work out of is old, and the roof leaks a little when it rains hard in July. But it is our place. We know every crack in the floor. That’s how we do things here without any fuss or fancy talk.
