If you find yourself near the Vit Hostel in Rahatani, you’ve probably seen our shop. We are at 658/6 Gultekdi, and there are always stacks of tyres piled up out front. It’s a greasy, busy place where we handle batteries and tyres all day long. We get a lot of students from the hostel coming in with flat bike tyres or cars that won't start because the battery died. The air smells like rubber and old oil, which is just how a shop like this should be. We’ve got a couple of heavy jacks and a machine for balancing wheels that makes a loud whirring sound. It’s mostly just us and a few helpers working under the shade of the awning. When the sun is high, we take turns sitting near the pedestal fan with a cold soda. People stop by for a quick air check or to ask about the price of a new set of wheels. We don’t have a fancy waiting room, just a wooden bench where you can sit and watch the traffic go by while we work. Sometimes we’re elbow-deep in a dirty engine bay, and other times we’re just sweeping up the metal shavings from the floor. It’s a simple local business. We’ve been in Rahatani for years and know most of the regulars who drive through this part of Gultekdi.
