Our construction business is set up in M.G. Nagar, right behind the Arya Samaj building. It’s a well-known landmark, so people usually find us without too much trouble. The office is more like a site cabin where we keep our blueprints and tools. There’s always dust in the air and the sound of hammers or machines somewhere nearby. We spend our days looking at drawings and talking to the workers. The floor is usually covered in some bit of sand or cement that someone tracked in. It’s not a place for fancy clothes or polished shoes. We deal with building materials, labor schedules, and making sure the walls go up straight. The weather dictates a lot of what we do. If it rains, everything slows down, and we spend more time inside the office drinking tea and looking at the budget. We have a small crew that has been with us for years. We don’t use a lot of big words or complicated plans; we just look at the site and decide what needs to be done next. It’s a lot of physical work and staying on-site until the sun goes down. We take pride in seeing a structure finally stand up on a piece of land that used to be empty. It’s a long process, but it’s what we know. We’ve worked on quite a few houses around this area of M.G. Nagar over the last few seasons. It keeps us busy and out in the fresh air most days.
