If you walk down Mahatma Gandhi Road, you’ll find us in the basement of Wonderland. It’s a bit of a maze down here, but Kamera Kraft has its own little corner. We spend most of our time surrounded by lenses and camera bodies that need a bit of attention. It’s a bit dusty sometimes because of all the old gear we have lying around. People come in looking for specific parts or just to talk about their photography gear. The lighting isn't great in the basement, but we have our work lamps. Sometimes we’re here late trying to figure out a mechanical issue with a vintage shutter. It’s quiet down here compared to the busy street outside, which helps when you’re dealing with small screws and delicate glass. We’ve seen all kinds of cameras pass through our hands over the years. Some are modern digital ones, others are old film cameras that haven't been used in decades. We just take them as they come. It’s a messy job, really. There’s always oil or cleaning fluid on the counter. We don't have a big staff, just a few of us who actually know what we’re doing with a screwdriver. MG Road is always noisy, but once you step down into the shop, it’s just the sound of shutters clicking. It’s a practical way to spend the day, even if it’s a bit cramped and the air is a little thin.
