It is a bit unusual to be working out of a flat like Flat No 29 in State Bank Nagar, but that’s where you’ll find us. Being in the Panchwati area of Pune is actually quite nice because it’s much greener and quieter than the city center. Hdfc Ltd operates from this residential setting, which gives the whole day a different kind of feel. You have to walk up the stairs and down the hallway to get to us, just like you’re visiting a neighbor. The rooms are filled with desks and filing cabinets instead of beds and sofas now. We spend most of our time going through loan papers and checking records. The light in Pune is always nice in the mornings, and we usually keep the windows open to catch the breeze. It feels a bit more relaxed here than in a big glass building. We have a small kitchen area where we make our own coffee and eat our lunch. Sometimes the neighbors from other flats pop their heads in to say hello. It’s a very grounded way to work. We don’t have a receptionist in a suit or any shiny marble floors. It’s just us, some computers, and a lot of folders. The pace is steady, and we just focus on getting through the stack of work on our desks. It’s a practical setup that works well for us and the people who come to see us.
