If you walk into Nigdi 23, you’ll find us surrounded by a lot of metal and oil. Harjot Auto Centre is basically a place where we get our hands dirty every single hour. There’s always an engine opened up on the floor or a bike up on the stand. I’ve spent more time looking at spark plugs and brake pads than I have doing anything else lately. The shop is a bit cluttered, with tires stacked in the back and tools scattered across the benches, but I know exactly where everything is. It gets quite loud with the sound of wrenches clanking and engines revving up to be tested. We get all sorts of people coming in, some who really care for their machines and others who only show up when something has completely broken down. I try to tell them what’s wrong without using too much technical talk. It’s hot work, especially in the summer, and the floor is permanently stained with grease that won't ever come out. We don’t have a fancy waiting room with air conditioning; people usually just stand around or sit on a plastic chair while we work. It’s a practical business. We fix what’s broken, charge a fair bit for the labor, and move on to the next vehicle waiting outside. That’s just how it goes here in our part of Nigdi, keeping the neighborhood cars and bikes running as they should.
