I started Gurudatta Snacks here in Pimpri because I needed a job and I knew how to make a few things well. It’s a very small stall, really, tucked away where people pass by on their way to the market. We mostly do quick bites that people can eat standing up or take with them in a paper bag. The stove is almost always on from six in the morning. I get here early to prep the dough and the fillings. By eight, the first crowd starts coming in for breakfast. It’s a lot of repetitive work, frying and packing and counting change. My hands are usually covered in flour or oil by the time I go home. Pimpri is a busy place, and there’s always noise and people moving around. We don’t have a website or any advertisements. People just see the sign and stop if they’re hungry. The rain can be a problem since we don't have much of a roof, just a small overhang. When it pours, we all huddle under there. I’ve had the same few regulars for years. They don't even have to tell me what they want anymore. It’s just a basic food stall, nothing more and nothing less. We keep the prices low because that’s what people around here need. It’s hard work and the days are long, but it’s what I do. I’m usually here until the sun goes down or the food runs out.
