Our place is right on the Akurdi stretch of the Mumbapi Puen Highway, so you can imagine the noise from the traffic outside. It never really stops, which is fine because we are usually making plenty of noise ourselves inside the workshop. We handle a lot of the big vehicles and engines that keep the transport lines moving. It’s a lot of heavy lifting and getting oil under your fingernails, but it’s the kind of work that feels real. The yard gets crowded with vans and chassis waiting for their turn, and sometimes the sun hitting the metal makes the whole area bake. We’ve got a team that’s been around for years, so everyone knows their role without needing much instruction. You’ll see us in our grease-stained shirts, grabbing a quick tea between jobs while talking about some engine trouble we saw that morning. It’s not a quiet office job where you sit in a chair all day. We are on our feet, moving parts around and making sure things are bolted down correctly. The highway breeze brings in a lot of dust, so we are constantly wiping things down, but it just comes back an hour later. It’s a gritty environment, but there is something satisfying about seeing a vehicle pull out of the gate and head down the road, knowing it’s ready for the trip and won't break down unexpectedly.
