Farids Camera Museum & Academy

If you head down Khondhwa Nagar Road, you'll find us at Farid Manzil. We are right near the Maruti service station, which is a good landmark if you're visiting for the first time. Farids Camera Museum & Academy is really a passion project that grew into something more. We have a lot of old cameras here that tell the story of how photography used to be. It’s not just a place to look at things, though. We also spend a lot of time teaching people how to use their own gear. Photography can be confusing with all the buttons and settings, so we try to break it down. The museum part is full of stuff I've collected over the years. Some of it is quite dusty, but that's what happens with old gear. We’re not a big corporate school. It’s more of a personal space where we share what we know. People come in from all over the neighborhood. Sometimes we just sit and talk about old lenses for an hour. It’s a bit of a maze getting here with the local traffic, but once you’re inside, it’s quiet. We don’t have a flashy storefront. It’s just our home and workspace. Keeping the old ways alive while helping new photographers find their feet is what we do. It’s a bit cramped with all the equipment, but we like it that way. Most days involve cleaning lenses or showing a student how to frame a shot. It's a slow pace, but it works for us.
