Diabetes Unit Kem Hospital & Research Centre

Our unit is located within the KEM Hospital & Research Centre premises in Rasta Peth. It’s an old part of the city, and the hospital itself has been around forever. The Diabetes Unit is just one part of the bigger complex. It can be a bit confusing to find us if you’re new to the hospital, as there are many different buildings and wings. We have been working out of these rooms in Rasta Peth for a long time. The walls could probably use a fresh coat of paint, but we are too busy to worry about that. We see a lot of patients every single day. Some come from far away because of the KEM name. We do our best to get through the queue, but sometimes there’s a wait. We don't have fancy coffee machines or anything. It's just wooden benches and old desks. We focus on the medical side of things rather than the looks of the place. The research side keeps us busy too, with lots of files and charts everywhere. It’s a busy, loud, and sometimes messy place to work, but it feels real. We aren't trying to be anything we aren't. We are just a bunch of health workers doing our bit in a very crowded city hospital. That’s just life at the Rasta Peth unit and we are fine with it.
