Our little shop is tucked away in Bhavanishankar, and if you aren't looking closely, you might walk right past us. We deal mostly in cotton fabrics and have been doing this for a few years now. The space is filled with rolls of cloth stacked up to the ceiling, which makes it feel a bit cramped when there are more than three customers inside. It gets quite warm in the afternoons, especially when the sun hits the front window, but we have a couple of fans going to keep the air moving. Most of our days are spent measuring out meters of fabric and cutting them on the big wooden table we have in the center. The edges of the table are worn down from years of use. We don't really do much in the way of fancy displays. We just put out what we have and let people feel the material for themselves. Sometimes the delivery truck comes late and we have to move all the heavy bundles ourselves, which is a lot of work for just two people. People from the neighborhood come by often, mostly looking for something simple for daily wear. We know most of the regulars by name. It’s a quiet life here in Bhavanishankar, just selling cotton and chatting with the neighbors when business is slow. We keep a ledger on the counter to track everything because we still prefer doing things the old way.
