Our shop is at 468 Budhwar Peth. If you know the area, you know how crowded it gets with all the shops and people. We are right in the thick of it. The shelves are packed with everything from light bulbs to heavy-duty wiring. It’s a bit messy because we have so much stock in such a small space. We have boxes stacked up to the ceiling in some corners. Electricians come in early in the morning to grab what they need for their day’s work. We know most of them by name. It is a lot of talk about voltage and different brands of switches. The street outside is always noisy with carts and bikes. We don’t have any air conditioning, just a few fans that blow the dust around. It’s a local business through and through. We spend our time counting out screws or cutting lengths of wire. Sometimes we can’t find a specific part right away, so we have to dig through the back. It’s not a supermarket; you have to ask for what you want. We’ve been in Budhwar Peth for a long time. The building is old and the stairs are narrow. We just keep the lights on and the parts ready for whoever walks in. It is honest work and we like being part of the neighborhood chaos.
