Bishnoi Samaj Development Foundation

You can find us in Baner, which is a part of Pune that has changed a lot lately. We are over at S No. 87/12, right in Veerbhadra Nagar. It’s a quiet enough pocket in a busy city. The Bishnoi Samaj Development Foundation is basically just us trying to keep our community together while everything else moves so fast. We have a small unit, number 3, in the building on plot 16. People from the Bishnoi community stop by when they’re in Pune or if they’ve just moved here and need to know where things are. We help with small things, like organizing a get-together or helping someone find their way around the local rules. It’s mostly just talk and planning over stools and old desks. We aren't trying to be some huge organization. We just know that when people move to a big city like Pune, they can feel a bit lost. Having a place where you recognize the faces and the way people talk makes a difference. We don't always have all the answers, but we listen. Sometimes we spend the whole afternoon just catching up on news from back home. It’s a simple way to spend the time and it keeps our traditions alive in a place that’s mostly made of concrete and new apartments now. We’re just regular folks doing our bit for our own.
