Being out here on the Bombay-Pune Road in Akurdi means we see a lot of traffic every single day. The plant is huge and there is always something moving around, whether it is a truck coming in or just people heading to their shifts. It has been this way for a long time. You can hear the sounds of the machinery from the gate. Working here is mostly about following the schedule and making sure the parts are where they need to be. It gets pretty dusty with all the construction and the road right there. Most of us have been here for years, so we know the shortcuts and which canteen serves the better tea in the afternoon. It is not a quiet place. There is always a hum in the background. We handle a lot of different things related to the vehicles and the tempos. Sometimes the weather makes things difficult, especially when the monsoon hits and the road gets messy. But the work doesn't really stop. We just keep going. It feels like a small city inside these walls because there are so many of us. You see the same faces every morning at the entrance. We don't spend much time talking about big goals or anything. We just look at what needs to be built that day and get on with it. It is a lot of heavy lifting and metal work. Akurdi is a busy spot and we are right in the middle of it all.
