We are set up in Ganegaon Khalsa, which is in the Shirur Taluka of the Pune district. Our specific work involves the apprentice program for Bajaj Auto, helping out folks who are learning the ropes. The office is out here in the village area, far from the main city buzz. It’s a basic building, nothing more than what’s needed to keep the records straight. We spend a lot of time talking to young people from the surrounding villages who want to get into the trade. It’s a very local feel here. You might see a cow walking past the window while we’re looking at a spreadsheet. We don’t have high-speed everything, but we make do with what we have. Sometimes the power cuts out and we just sit and talk until it comes back on. It’s a slower pace of life, but the work is important for the community. We use simple tables and some old metal cupboards to store our files. Everyone knows where the key is hidden if the main person is late. We aren't trying to be a big corporate entity out here. We’re just part of the local landscape, trying to help the next generation get their start at the Akurdi plant. It’s honest work and we’re glad to be doing it right here. We keep a pot of water for anyone who is thirsty from the walk.
