Our place is out at Gat No. 1261 in Sanaswadi, right off the Pune-Nagar Road. It’s a bit of a trek for some of us who live further in the city, but you get used to the commute. Arihant Domestic Appliances is basically a large shed where we put together things people use in their homes every day. It’s not a glamorous setup. There’s usually a lot of cardboard boxes piled up near the loading dock and the sound of tape dispensers is pretty much constant. We have a lot of parts coming in and finished goods going out on trucks. The Tal Shirur area can get really dusty, especially when the wind picks up, so we spend a lot of time cleaning. The staff here is mostly local folks who have been with us for a while. We don't have fancy titles or big offices. Even the bosses are usually wearing work shirts and helping out when things get backed up. We have a small canteen area where the food is okay, mostly just home-cooked stuff people bring in. It's a practical environment. We focus on the assembly line and making sure nothing goes out with a scratch on it. It’s a lot of manual work and standing on your feet all day, but it’s a living and we’ve built a decent little community out here. We just try to get the appliances ready for delivery by the end of the week.
